Astronomers have identified what could be the brightest object ever seen in the universe, a distant quasar named J0529-4351, which is located about 12 billion light-years away from Earth. This quasar is estimated to be at least 500 trillion times brighter than our sun. The significant findings were made with the help of the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope in northern Chile, supplemented by data from Australia’s Siding Spring Observatory. Initially misclassified as a star, it was only recently recognized as a quasar. The supermassive black hole at the center of this quasar is consuming material equivalent to one sun per day, making it one of the most massive and active known objects in space.
